| Zanu PF intensifies violence ahead of run-off |

10 April 2008 The ruling Zanu PF party has intensified its deployment machinery of violence as it prepares for a presidential election run off albeit holding the nation at ransom by withholding the results nine days after the 29 March 2008 elections. Reports received from Mt Darwin, Dotito in Mashonaland Central Province are that the party has set up war veterans bases at Dotito growth point to catalyse the party’s violent campaign during and after the run off election to intimidate the electorate. In Mashonaland West province, Murombedzi district the marauding youth militias have since erected block boulders virtually barricading the road to Chinhoyi. Motorists are being stopped and asked for ruling party cards, depicting the emergence of the violent pictures of 2000 and 2002 when the youth militia became a lawless outfit beating, maiming, torturing, killing and raping people during the run up to the elections. In Manicaland, Rusape town is under siege from the war vets and youth militia, who are on a door to door offensive forcing people to attend rallies. The Central Intelligence Organization (CIO) district head, only identified as Masiya and Zanu PF activist Nathaniel Mhiripiri have been implicated in the crude drive.
