| Inaugural Afro-Brits Awards set for Leeds, UK |

19 July 2008 By Showbiz Reporter Zimbabwean entrepreneur Natty Zvimba has put together the inaugural Afro-Brits Awards set for Leeds on the 25th of July this year. The aim of the awards ceremony is to reward prominent people in the United Kingdom who have a strong bond with the African continent. Presenters lined up for the awards bash include legendary Radio 3 DJ Kelvin ‘The Soul Supreme’ Sifelani, SW Radio Africa Presenter/Producer Lance Guma, Ezra ‘Tshisa’ Sibanda, model Cynthia Muvirimi and Kriss Nkosi. Performing on stage will be Decibel, DJ Jojoba, Imperial, Lisa Crawford and Leeds finest DJ KB. Protest theatre group, Theatre Under Fire (TUF) are also expected to feature. The ceremony starts at 7pm till late and three-quarters of the tickets have already sold Zvimba told Nehanda Radio. Around 100 tickets are still left for the red carpet affair which is expected to see prominent celebrities like John Fashanu, John Barnes, Samantha Mumba, Benjani Mwaruwari, Makosi and others. Zvimba was also in frantic efforts to get Zimbabwean song bird and rave queen Rozalla Milla to join the VIP list. The Afro-Brits Awards website says, ‘this special event honours outstanding people who consistently and unselfishly invested their time and talents to help change and improve the lives of African people and others. The individual stories of their significant accomplishments are always impressive, moving, and inspirational. Through the years, the program has become well known and respected, giving distinguished honourees the recognition they so well deserve. Afro Brits Awards continue to enrich the quality of life in our communities. Some of those already nominated are Nelson Mandela, Archbishop of York John Sentamu, Violet Gonda and Gerry Jackson of SW Radio Africa, footballer Benjani, Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton, writer Dorris Lessing and others.
