Last week Doreen Mutemeri wrote an article entitled Mugabe needs a few minutes in church. That article has triggered a huge response from our readers. Below are some of the comments we have received.
It's up to us as Zimbabweans to be on our bended knees to pray for that to happen. Don't worry that wish has been granted.- Tsitsi Grace Mutambirwa.
I think that is a load of rubbish! If Mugabe had an ounce of Christianity in him Zimbabwe wouldn't be in the position it is today! He is evil personified and has a lot to answer for. He and Zanu PF have raped women, murdered, pillaged the country and decimated the coffers. People are dying daily through their neglect. How can you even suggest he returns to "God"! He thinks he is!- Noreen Welch, former ZBC newsreader, New Zealand.
I would like to applaud your writer Doreen Mutemeri for at least reminding us of the irony of Mugabe claiming to be a Catholic and yet presiding over such a tragic crisis and killing people for that matter. God can work miracles in our lives if we allow him to and there is no shame in asking him to intervene which is what I think Doreen is suggesting. Norman Sibanda, Sheffield UK.
Mugabe in church, please be serious guys, that man is a murderer, full stop. Going to church will not change anything as far as he is concerned. If God existed he would not allow what is happening in Zimbabwe, Ndavonga hangu ini ishe.- Matthew Gotora, Harare.
Now there is a good suggestion. I wonder why no one thought of it. Pity he might not see the door of the Cathedral. The guilt would be too much for him and I doubt he believes God will ever forgive him.- Samson Mushangwe, Bulawayo.
After killing over 20 000 people in Matabeleland and the Midlands, its an insult to even suggest that 'its not too late for Mugabe to rejoin the family of God.' That man is a monster and already belongs in hell. Lets not make excuses for him. Soul Ndlovu, Coventry, UK.
Allow me space to comment on Doreen Mutemeri's article and say she poses a question which should be stretched further to the Catholic Church. Besides Bulawayo' s Archbishop Pius Ncube who challenged Mugabe how many other Catholic Church members in Zimbabwe have stood up to condemn what is wrong with their own member. They are just quiet and very guilty by association. Kingstone Mambo, Texas, USA.
I want to agree with Kingstone in that Anglican Bishop Sebastian Bakare has been a vocal critic of the Mugabe regime so far but nothing ever comes out from the Catholic Church. Only when they write their pastoral letters do they scratch the surface and try to be diplomatic. Mugabe should be told Cash Talk by all ZIMBABWEANS, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, ZANU YAORA.- Melody Rumbidzai, Gweru.
