Pius Ncube story: Your views:

Pius Ncube is making headline news in Zimbabwe with the alleged sex scandal, and accusations of having an adulterous affair with his married secretary, bedding at least TEN different women during the period when he was being trailed by a private investigator. so much for celibacy.  Yes it is shocking to some, and to others a lot of conspiracy theories are already being cooked up. Could there be truth in these allegations or is the ‘Mad bishop’ simply being targeted for being Robert Mugabe’s harshest critic could this be a way to silence and discredit one of Mugabe’s most vocal critics?

Well we have just too many unanswered questions. Perhaps the timing of the whole scandal is a little too convenient for the government, nonetheless, we should not rule out the possibility of truth in the allegations levelled against Roman Catholic Archbishop Pius Ncube, history is replete with the notorious behaviour by these celibacy-vow-making-man and women who then later break they vows and do the unspeakable some even choosing to abuse little children.

Lets not rule out the fact that the man who we may view as the loudest critic of the dictator (Mugabe) may not be as pure and as clean as we had previously thought Pius Ncube may be like many other Catholic priests who have fallen short of the vows of celibacy, and much more could come out, as people master up the courage to speak out against the abuse they may have faced at the hands of man whom society deem clean and upright.
This whole thing about Pius Ncube just got me thinking, and has left this one big question in my head, why celibacy? Why has the Catholic Church taken this on? Is it scriptural? Does this not go against the laws of nature?

The Catholic Church is the only religious denomination that demands this sacrifice of its Priesthood and, today it is a church in crisis, a sexual crisis.Since 1960, two thousand Priests have renounced their vows and the intake of new Priests is shrinking dramatically. For example, in Ireland in the early 60s there were six Catholic seminaries with over five hundred young men studying for the Priesthood, now there is only one remaining Catholic Seminary in the country with just 65 students. But even more disastrous for the church has been a scandal linking Catholic Priests in at least ten countries to Child sexual abuses.

In Ireland Cardinal Desmond Canal now faces a staggering 450 legal actions on child abuse in his Archdiocese. The Worldwide crisis in the Catholic Church begs many questions.  Is sexual denial healthy or can it sometimes become dangerous?  Is there any link between enforced celibacy and the apparent epidemic of child abuse by the Clergy and why enforced? When young men vow to renounce all sexual acts, thoughts and desires for the rest of their days, who benefits, God or the rest of mankind?

Why celibacy, why impose it, what’s its effect? Maybe someone out there might enlighten me on this one is celibacy scriptural or is it something the Catholics made up? Lets debate let’s talk about it.

While on my lunch break, I was checking out headlines on my cell phone when I saw this story about Zimbabwe's Roman Catholic Archbishop Pius Ncube being named in an adultery case. This is particularly disconcerting since I've been closely following Ncube's bold stand against the tyrannical regime of President Robert Mugabe.

Ncube has been one of the men leading the charge for change in Zimbabwe. He has even said in the past that he was willing to die to see his country free of persecution. I've seen reports where Ncube has denied having a relationship with the woman and others where he has refused to say either way.

One thing is for certain, the Mugabe government would love to see Ncube go down in flames. Character assassination is always a possibility. They've tried it before. They will, I am sure, try it again. To me, Ncube's reaction to all of this has been strange. He really hasn't said very much, but he has talked about a key doctrine of the church being "forgiveness when there was weakness." Hmmm…

Uh, oh.

Ncube said in a recent interview with the Associated Press…

"I will not answer this question concerning my private life…yes, I did take a vow. There are a whole lot of other circumstances that take place in a person's life. I would not be able to answer those items."

Double uh, oh.

Government officials say they have the video of Ncube getting in bed with a woman.

Yikes!

I sincerely hope that when the truth is brought to light that these allegations are found to be not true. It would be so sad to see someone so brave be discredited, brought down by his own "weakness."

Pray for the truth to be discovered. Repentance and restoration, if need be…or justice and vindication, if that is needed. Either way, pray that relief, freedom and revival would come to the people of Zimbabwe.

Make sure to check out my other blog posting today about Tintin in the Congo.  I'd love to know what you think!

From Zimbabwe Journalists.com comes this piece

Dear Sir/Madam,

It is unfortunate that the issue of Pius Ncube being sued for adultery is being viewed on the political side instead of it being a social, religious doctrine case. Why should Pius Ncube, who to those of us in Zimbabwe publicly confirmed on the national TV to the adultery, being treated as the victim? The case of the matter is that this case has nothing to do with him being a critic of the government of Zimbabwe.

Does that give him, if he did he is being accused of having done, the priviledge to go around sleeping with women when the religious doctrines he swore to does not allow him to do so? I do not think it morally right to confuse issues, or is it being done to potray him like a saint yet he himself publicly confirmed to the adultery issue.

It is very unfortunate that the world is choosing to see the other side and yet the man is sweating because he knows the issue against him. Of course the president might have said that Catholic clergy swear to celibacy but later on engage in sexual activities, this is so because he is a practicing Catholic and may have knwoledge of what goes on within the church circles.

Of course one is innocent until proven guilty, but what happens when one acknowledges the allegation, do we say he is innocent. If it was a criminal offence, would the judge enter a not guilty or guilty verdict? As much as the outside world hates President Mugabe, let us give credit for the bad actions of other people. I think it is not fair and for one I sometimes think that if the allegations are true, Pius Ncube is paying for all the lies he has peddled to the outside world, just justice will prevail in the end and those who are lying about Zimbabwe, would one day be judged.

It will not happen today, tomorrow, next year or in 5 years time, but one we will all be judged for our deeds, so in all what we do let fair play prevail, let us not be swayed by the crowd, be it our employers, buddies, etc. I know for one that lying is sinful before God, and for those of us who believe that judgement day will come, let trade carefully, because we do not know when that day will come.

Pius Ncube's case has nothing to do with President Mugabe. He did what he did by himself, so let him answer what he is being alleged to have done by himself. "If a man is naked, please let us not tell him and praise him that he is wearing a three piece suit".

The only thing we can do is to sympathise iwth Pius Ncube that he did not ask his Creator to assist him during the trying and tempting times. It is unfortunate that Ncube did not do so that is why he managed to be swyed by the devil which in this case "if is true"came in the form of the women. Devils to some of us are coming in the form of lying and very soon we are to be judged for outright lies.

I rest my case, surfingcafe@yahoo.com

Dear Sir/Madam

It would be folly for anyone to stand up and say the unfolding allegations against Arch Bishop Pius Ncube are untrue because he is human and therefore fallible. However, it is purely academic and rationale to question the validity of the claims, the hype surrounding the allegations, the timing of the lawsuit and the link to the history of how ZANU PF try to silence critics by character assassination and trumped up treason charges.

The case is reminiscent of the Cain Nkala murder case where Rouben Barwe was at Nkala's shallow grave to film detectives who came to 'discover' the remains of the slain war veterans leader. It appeared as if it was Rouben Barwe who made the finding because he was there first, having flown into Bulawayo to give a detailed account of how the murder had been conducted. This was done despite the presence of many ZBC correspondents based in Matebeleland who are stationed there to cover such events. The Cain Nkala case finally came to court and predictably crumbled like a deck of cards.

In the case of Ncube, the arrival of court officials in the company of ZBC news crew raises strong suspicions that several meetings and consultations must have taken place between several actors before serving Ncube with the summons. Remarks made by President Mugabe a week earlier, alleging that some senior church leaders were living unholy lives further gives credence to the conspiracy theory. The quick confessions by Rosemary Sibanda that they used condoms is uncharacteristic of a true house wife caught in such shameful conduct.

It seems ZBC has already conducted the trial and passed verdict. How low journalistic standards have fallen in Zimbabwe, how unethical, how cruel? In the fullness of time, the truth may be known.
